Updates say what has happened; events say where to be. Help Center › Events is a calendar of the meetings, services, conferences and gatherings an organization invites people to. Each published event is listed on the website until it ends and then moves to the past-events tab by itself.
An organization that never publishes events turns them off under Setup › Management Levels. The events pages then answer "page not found", and the menu links, the Events page section and the sitemap entry disappear. The events you have already entered are kept.
Creating an event
- Open Help Center › Eventsand choose New event.
- Describe it.A title, a one- or two-sentence summary for the event cards, and the full description. The public address is made from the title and shown under it.
- Schedule it.A start, and an end if it has one. All day hides the times. A time note ("Doors open at 9:30 AM") prints beside the time.
- Say where.A venue name and address (the event page links the address to a map), or an online link for a virtual or hybrid event.
- Add the details a visitor asks about.Organizer name, email, phone and website; cost; the number of seats; and an optional registration button with its own label and link.
- Pick a category and a picture.Categories are free text with suggestions from the ones in use, and they become the filter on the events page. The picture comes from the media library.
- Publish.Save & publish lists it on the website. A draft stays private; an administrator can open a draft at its own address to check it first.
What the list shows
An event without an end stays upcoming until the end of the day it starts. The list can be searched and filtered by status and category; each row can be edited, viewed, published or unpublished, duplicated (the copy starts as a draft) or deleted, and several rows can be published, unpublished or deleted at once.
On the website
/eventslists upcoming events, nine to a page, with a category filter./events/pastlists events that have ended./events/<slug>.htmlis the event's own page: the picture, the description, and a details card with when, where, cost, seats and organizer, an Add to calendar download and a directions link.
The calendar file keeps the event's local time, so the event lands at the same clock time in the visitor's calendar that the event page shows.
The Events page section
The page builder has an Events section that shows the next events on any page, as cards or as a list, two to six at a time. When nothing is coming up it can hide itself, show the most recent past events, or show a short message.
Permission
Managing events needs the Manage Events administrator permission. The 1.7.0 upgrade gives it to every role that can already manage Updates.
