An organization's work is seen before it is read. Content Manager › Galleries is a library of albums, each holding any number of pictures and videos in the order you arrange them. An album has its own page on the website, and the same album can be shown on any number of built pages without its pictures being copied anywhere.
An organization that does not publish pictures turns galleries off under Setup › Management Levels. The gallery pages then answer "page not found", the menu links and the sitemap entries disappear, and the two Gallery page sections are left out of every page. The albums are kept and stay editable in the Content Manager.
Creating an album
- Open Content Manager › Galleriesand choose New album.
- Describe it.A title, a one- or two-sentence summary for the album cards, and the full description shown above the pictures. The public address is made from the title and shown under it.
- Add the pictures.Drop them onto the album - several at once, each uploaded with its own progress bar - or choose Add from library to pick files already in the media library.
- Add video if you have it.Add video takes a YouTube or Vimeo address. The video sits among the pictures and plays in the same frame they open in.
- Arrange and label.Drag a tile to move it, or use the arrows. Each item takes a title, a caption and alternative text for screen readers. Make cover sets the picture the album is known by.
- Say when and where.A date, a place and a credit line for the photographer. Each is optional and each is shown on the album page when it is filled in.
- Pick a category.Categories are free text with suggestions from the ones already in use, and they become the filter on the gallery page.
- Publish.Save & publish puts the album on the website. A draft stays private; an administrator can open a draft at its own address to check it first, with a notice that it is not public.
What the list shows
The list can be searched and filtered by status and category. Each row can be edited, viewed, published or unpublished, duplicated (the copy starts as a draft and keeps the pictures) or deleted, and several rows can be published, unpublished, featured or deleted at once.
On the website
/gallerylists the published albums as cards, twelve to a page, with a chip for each category in use./gallery/<slug>.htmlis the album's own page: the description, the date, place and credit, and the pictures as a mosaic, followed by a strip of the organization's other albums.
Any picture opens in a lightbox that is moved with the arrow keys or swiped on a phone and closed with Esc. The address in the bar follows the picture being viewed, so a single picture can be linked to directly. Videos play in the same frame. Album pages are listed in the sitemap.
The Gallery page sections
The page builder has two sections that draw on the same albums, so a picture added to an album shows everywhere it is used at once.
Permission
Editing galleries needs the Manage Content administrator permission, the same one that opens the rest of the Content Manager.
